Mutual Honor? Or it is just the job of a wife to offer respect?

Misunderstanding what the Bible teaches about “Respect” is One of the Most Common ingredients that contribute to the Failure of Christian Marriages – and probably Affects Your Own Marriage – Without You Even Realizing it!

As laid down in Ephesians 5:21-33, which covers the topics of Submission and Respect (among others), this has been the foundation of teaching for those who believe that a wife is to submit to her husband’s authority; authority that this passage is believed to bestow.

It has also been the basis for the concept that a wife is to “respect” her husband and a husband is to love his wife. Yes! A husband IS supposed to love his wife. However, a husband is ALSO supposed to “respect” his wife!

The popular idea has been that a man’s number one need in marriage is for his wife to respect him! Sorry. Respect is great. Everyone enjoys mutual respect and wants it in their marriage – but a man’s number 1 need is not to be respected.

Being respecteed is the RESULT of loving and respecting his wife first! Teaching that a man’s number one need is to be “respected” is totally off base. It contributes to an “all about me” and selfish approach to marriage by husbands – and this is where things get dangerous for the Christian marriage…

In addition to these wrong ideas about respect, a woman is taught that her husband is to be the final decision maker in the household.

Her job is to submit her desires, convictions and leadings to the desires, convictions and leadings of her husband.

We have been conditioned to view this passage by consistent and repeated reinforcements that slant it a certain way.

The years of conditioning make it almost impossible to read the passage without coming away with the idea that a woman’s submission to and respect of her husband are the key to happiness in marriage, God’s way.

But what does the word “respect” really mean?

The Greek word for “respect” is Phobeo – and we are told to “Fear Not” – REPEATEDLY. Jesus himself said “Phobeo not!” – after he rose from the dead and appeared to many. He told John to “fear not” on the Isle of Patmos. If our risen Lord and Savior tells us to “Phobeo NOT” – then why would we be taught that a wife is to “phobeo” her husband?

What do we do with this?

To learn the TRUTH about respect in your Christian Marriage, click here for the full story.

FACT: 50% of Christian Couples Who Do Not Understand the True Meaning of Submission, Headship and Respect as Found in the Bible Will Wind Up in Divorce.

Are You Willing to Take that Chance?

As Christians, we have been taught for at least the past 50 years that the bedrock of all marriage teaching, the rule that we should live our lives by, can be summed up by a single short passage – Ephesians 5:21-33.

This passage has been the foundation of teaching for those who believe that a wife is to submit to her husband’s authority; authority that this passage is believed to bestow.

A woman is taught that her husband is to be the final decision maker in the household.

Ephesians and the Dangerous

“Doctrine of Authority…”

The church has taken these ideas that appear to address wives and built a doctrine of authority in the home that has brought harm to Christian marriages.

This doctrine of authority states:

– A husband is God’s “delegated authority” over his wife (her head).

– A wife is to be subservient, secondary, and a “subject” in her husband’s kingdom. (Subject to her husband.) She is told that if she is not submissive to her husband, her rebellion is not to man but to God himself.

– If she disrespects her husband, she is actually disrespecting God’s order in the home.

This doctrine of authority is a sacred cow.

But here’s the startling truth, and why it may be destroying your marriage from the inside out…

A gross misinterpretation of the true

message of Ephesians has brought

misery to many Christian couples.

It is a flawed paradigm of marriage that

does not work!

This passage has been the foundation of teaching for those who believe that a wife is to submit to her husband’s authority; authority that this passage is believed to bestow.

A woman is taught that her husband is to be the final decision maker in the household.

Ephesians and the Dangerous ”Doctrine of Authority…”

The church has taken these ideas that appear to address wives and built a doctrine of authority in the home that has brought harm to Christian marriages.

This doctrine of authority states:

A husband is God’s “delegated authority” over his wife (her head).

A wife is to be subservient, secondary, and a “subject” in her husband’s kingdom. (Subject to her husband.) She is told that if she is not submissive to her husband, her rebellion is not to man but to God himself.

If she disrespects her husband, she is actually disrespecting God’s order in the home.

This doctrine of authority is a sacred cow.

But here’s the startling truth, and why it may be destroying your marriage from the inside out…

A gross misinterpretation of the true message of Ephesians has brought misery to many Christian couples.

It is a flawed paradigm of marriage that does not work!
